Japan Tokyo Oct CPI -0.5% Y/Y On Energy

  • The core consumer price index (excluding fresh food) in the Tokyo area, a leading indicator of the national average, declined 0.5% y/y in October, down from the previous 0.2% y/y fall.
  • Energy costs fell 5.6% y/y, following last month's 3.3% y/y drop.
  • Processed food prices edged up 0.2% y/y, much slower from the previous 0.9% y/y growth.
  • Prices for household durable goods rose 1.7% y/y, compared with 0.6% y/y fall last month.
  • The core-core CPI (excluding fresh food and energy) -- a key indicator in the underlying trend of inflation -- declined 0.2% y/y in Tokyo in October.
