Japan's dependency on Middle East crude reaches 94.5% in August according to METI data.

  • Japanese crude oil imports from the Middle East in August rose 12.1% from a year earlier to 2.82 million bpd.
  • The dependency rate on the Middle East hit 97.7% in July, the highest since statistics began in 1952. August’s dependency dropped because of higher imports from the US.
  • Japan's total crude oil imports rose 9.3% in August from a year earlier to 2.98 million bpd.
