JAPAN
JAPAN: Japanese investors were net sellers of foreign bonds and stocks in the
most recent week, but the sizes were quite limited (Y164bn and Y106bn
respectively).
- The real story came on the other side of the ledger, with foreign investors
selling a net Y3.1486tn worth of Japanese bonds, the largest amount of weekly
net selling on record (going back to 2001). This pushed the 4-week rolling sum
of the measure well into negative territory, with that particular metric now
reflecting the deepest amount of net selling seen since Oct 2018.
- Japanese investors also sold Y1.1778tn worth of Japanese equities, the largest
round of weekly net selling seen since March, pushing the 4 week rolling sum of
that metric further into negative territory.
