Jobs Data Fails To Convince US Voters Of Improved Economic Outlook

US

A new survey from YouGov has found that a majority of US citizens believe that inflation is the most important issue facing the US today. The findings may be difficult for the White House which has sought to tie strong jobs data with economic recovery.

  • President Biden said after last week’s jobs report: “In short, the Biden economic plan is working. And due to the historic action taken by Congress this week, my economic plan will continue to deliver good jobs for the American people…”
  • The survey shows that beyond inflation, Americans have a pessimistic view of the economy in general: “Half (50%) believe the U.S. is currently in a recession. A majority (54%) say the U.S. economy is getting worse… a majority (53%) expect gas prices to rise in the next six months. Nearly half (46%) say the inflation rate will be higher in the next six months.”
