The date for the senate vote of January 17 (Martin Luther King Day) and Georgia's central role in the Civil Rights movement and both hoped to resonate with the Democrat senators.
  • The Democrats consider passing the legislation vital to boost support ahead of the 2022 midterms. This is especially important now as the future of Build Back Better remains uncertain.
  • The voter rights bill contains three pieces of separate legislation: The Freedom to Vote Act, The John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, and the Electoral Count Act.
