June 1 T-Bill Yields Surge On Debt Limit Concerns

  • June 1 T-bill yields have jumped higher and briefly cleared 7% today in a 130bp increase on the day (currently 6.97%).
  • Yellen earlier, having reiterated the x-date could be June 1: "If Congress doesn't act to raise the debt ceiling, and if we hit the so-called X-date without that occurring, there will be some obligations that we will be unable to pay".
  • She will update Congress soon with more precision on the timeline.
