Kazakhstan Deny Issues With German Oil Transport via Russia
OIL
Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry has denied reports out Thursday that its transit of oil to Germany via Russia could be stopped in June over a payment dispute.
- The denial came after reports that Russia's Transneft had warned Kazakhstan that its oil transit to Germany could stop in June due to a payment dispute with the Polish state pipeline operator PERN for gas metering services.
- "This information has not been confirmed," the Kazakh Energy Ministry's official spokesman Shyngys Ilyasov said.
- Germany’s Schwedt refinery is reliant on Kazakh crude via the northern leg of the Druzhba pipeline to replace Russian barrels for the inland refinery.
- Kazakhstan plans to ship 1.2m tonnes of oil to Germany via Druzhba this year. There is talk of increasing supplies to 2m tonnes in the future.
