Kazakhstan Seeks to Pivot Crude Exports Away From CPC Pipeline

OIL

Kazakhstan is seeking alternative routes for oil exports to reduce the dependence on the CPC pipeline via Russia, Kazakhstan’s Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev said, cited by Orda.kz.

  • Kazakhstan is looking to reroute its exports, after increased Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy infrastructure in recent weeks.
  • "KazMunayGaz has already bought tankers. There are agreements with Azerbaijani colleagues on access to the Baku-Supsa and Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipelines. Measures are being taken to ensure the so-called oil quality bank, and Kazakhstan already has the possibility to transport about 2m tonnes of oil through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. In general, we are thinking about alternative routes. There are projects. We are also considering the possibility of using the pipeline to China as a backup option," Satkaliyev said.
  • 80% of Kazakhstan’s crude oil exports to western markets are shipped through the CPC pipeline.
