KC Fed Mfg Index Slows In Nov As Expected

DATA REACT

The Kansas City Fed Manufacturing Activity reading for November came in at 11 - exactly as expected though lower than the 13 recorded in October.

  • As the index is reported on a month-on-month basis, this suggests activity in the region slowed vs October, but was in line with the 11 posted in September.
  • Production, shipments, new orders, and employment rose at a slower pace.
  • KC Fed: "Manufacturing activity remained below year ago levels, but expectations for future activity remained solid. Prices paid for raw materials and finished goods continued to expand compared to a month ago and a year ago. District firms expected prices for both raw materials and finished goods to increase further in the next six months."
  • The Future Composite index was 21 (described by the KC Fed as 'solid'), similar to October's reading.
  • While not a market-mover in itself and in line with expectations, this was the third major regional Fed index (along with NY and Philadelphia) to show slowing manufacturing activity in November. Chicago and Richmond are released next week.
