Kishida To Tap Amari To Become LDP SecGen

JAPAN

The transition of power in Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party has begun, with new leader Fumio Kishida set to announce a reshuffle of party executives by the end of this week, before he formally becomes Prime Minister and unveils the new Cabinet line-up.

  • Articles circulated by the Nikkei, Mainichi, Yomiuri and Sankei have suggested that Kishida will tap Akira Amari to replace octogenarian veteran Toshihiro Nikai as LDP Secretary General, the second most senior position in the party.
