Kremlin: There Should Be No Outside Interference In Kazakhstan

Russian state-owned outlet RIA reporting comments from Kremlin Press Secretary Dimitry Peskov stating that the Russian gov't: "Hope our Kazakh friends will be able to resolve internal issues on their own. Important to avoid foreign interference".

  • Comes as mass unrest hits the streets of the Central Asian nation (see 0913GMT bullet). A state of emergency has been declared, the Cabinet removed from office, and fuel subsidies reintated (the removal of which was a key spark for the unrest).
  • Peskov states that Russia has had no request for assistance from the Kazakh gov't.
  • Significant focus on Russia's actions re: Kazakhstan, given the heightened tensions around Russia/Ukraine at present.
