Kremlin Threatens UK With 'Further Steps' For 'Directing' NS Attack

RUSSIA

Kremlin spox Dmitri Peskov states that regarding the Nord Stream gas pipeline incident, 'We believe Britain was involved in the terrorist attack, and we will consider further steps in response'. Says that London was involved in “directing and coordinating” the 'attack'. Adds that no decision has been made on whether Russia will repair the pipelines.

  • Unclear what 'further steps' might look like. The UK is rarely a major purchaser of Russian gas, and indeed in recent months has eliminated purchases of Russian gas and oil. The UK has been one of the major donators of military equipment to Ukraine, raising ire in Moscow. Retaliation could come in the form of cyberattacks on UK critical infrastructure, or on gov't comms networks (stories broke earlier this week that Russia hacked the personal phone of former PM Liz Truss).
  • Also states that the partial military mobilisation of reserve troops is over, and that no counter decree from President Putin is required. Peskov: "The President said that he would consult with lawyers, legal experts. We are informing you that the decree is not needed. Accordingly, the point is proven. Partial mobilisation has been completed,"
