Largest US Export-Port to Raise VLCC Loads in Oct.

OIL

Oil-exporting terminals in Corpus Christi, Texas will be able to load more oil onto VLCCs starting from October.

  • VLCCs will be able to load up to 1.4m bbl from October, compared to 1.2m bbl currently. A specific date was not provided.
  • A larger load is possible as the port advances work to deepen the draft of the ship channel.
  • The longer-term goal to allow Suezmaxes to take a full load of 1m bbl and VLCCs to load as much as 1.6m bbl.
  • Larger loads should reduce costs to shippers, who need to complete the full load of a vessel in costly ship-to-ship transfers.
