Lavrov-We Will Soon Propose Date For Call w/US Sec Of State Blinken

Wires carrying comments from Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stating that the Kremlin will soon propose a date for a call between Lavrov and his US counterpart, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.

  • Earlier, Russian state media reported the Foreign Ministry stating, in regard to previous comments from Blinken talking up the prospect of a call, that they would 'pay attention' to Blinken's request 'when time permits'.
  • Yesterday, State Dep't spox Ned Price stated that the US expects a call within the coming days. Said the US has put forward a 'substantial offer' to secure the release of imprisoned US citizens, WNBA star Brittney Griner and former US Marine Paul Whelan.
  • Any call between the two ministers would be the most high-level public talks between US and Russian officials since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in February.
