Leaders Meet For First 'European Political Community' Summit

Leaders from across Europe are meeting in Prague, Czechia for the inaugural summit of the European Political Community today in what the group's proposer, French President Emmanuel Macron, wants to see as a forum for debate between European leaders that can set aside contentious issues such as EU accession and Brexit.

  • Major non-EU European leaders including UK PM Liz Truss and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan set to be in attendance.
  • Rough timetable here (all in CET): https://www.consilium.europa.eu/en/meetings/intern... . Arrivals from 1200CET (0600ET, 1100BST)
  • The leaders are expected to discuss issues including the war in Ukraine, migration, the energy price crisis.
  • If the meeting is deemed a success, the EPC could become an important forum for EU member state leaders to engage with UK, Turkish, and other non-EU national leaders on a regular basis.
