Lingering Issues for Turkey/Iraq Pipeline Restart

OIL

Turkey has yet to notify Iraq about whether the oil exports pipeline is ready to begin operations according to senior Iraqi officials speaking with Reuters.

  • “We as an oil ministry need to be informed officially by the Turkish side about the recent developments on the pipeline status. We heard about it in media only,” one of the officials said.
  • The second said pipeline flows were waiting on “lingering financial and technical issues”.
  • Turkey's Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said last Monday "Within this week, we will start operating the Iraq-Turkey pipeline after resuming operations. It will be able to supply half a million barrels, almost, to global oil markets," comments that were quickly rebuffed by Iraqi officials.
  • At present there are no signs of a timeline to resume flows on the pipeline.
