LNG Imports Increase in the Week Led by Japan and China

Global LNG imports grew 12% week-on-week in the period 5-11 June to 7.6m metric tons according to Bloomberg with an increase of 0.4m in Japan and 0.3m to mainland China. Europe's imports were unchanged on the week but about 19% down from last month.

  • Total LNG exports only rose 1% from the prior week to 7.2m tons with a small drop in supply from US amid Sabine Pass maintenance and further declines from Qatar, and Australia but increase from Indonesia.
  • LNG volumes on tankers at sea remained well above the five-year average having increase from a low of 2.44m tons on 3 June to 2.85m tons as of 12 June.
