Looking Through Latest Source Reports

JGBS

JGB futures have looked through the latest BBG and RTRS source reports re: potential BoJ policy action.

  • The stories failed to provide fresh, meaningful information.
  • There was some very modest pressure in JGB futures at the overnight session open (following the BBG story), but Tokyo lows were not challenged and the contract has recovered to unchanged levels.
  • Cash JGBs saw similar moves ahead of the close.
  • The rally in gilt markets probably factored into the recovery as well.
  • A reminder that Tokyo hours saw measured comments from Governor Ueda, supporting JGBs.
  • Ueda noted that consumption of non-durables was weak but stressed that the economy was gradually recovering.
  • He reiterated that the BoJ will act when its inflation target is in sight but would not comment on questions re: recent market moves and speculation on future policy moves.
