Lula Scores Over 50% In Latest Presidential Poll

BRAZIL

Former Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who is seen as the likely candidate for the far-left Workers' Party in the 2022 presidential election, scores over 50% in the latest opinion poll from CNT/MDA. Should this result be reflected in a next year's election it would negate the requirement for a second round run off between the two highest-placed candidates.

  • CNT/MDA poll: Lula (PT, centre-left): 51%, Bolsonaro (PL, right): 30%, Moro (PODE, conservative): 11%, Gomes (PDT, centre-left): 6%, Doria (PSDB, centre-right): 2%. Fieldwork: 9-11 December '21. Sample size: 2,002
  • All recent polling has shown Lula as the frontrunner, and on course to beat Bolsonaro in any run-off. But this is the first to show Lula with enough support to win in the first round.
