Macron Building Substantial Lead In 2nd Round Polling

FRANCE

Incumbent French President Emmanuel Macron is building an increasingly solid buffer between himself and all other potential second-round election challengers according to opinion polling (all below Ifop Fiducial, 14 March, chgs w/ 11 March, 1,500 respondents).

  • 1st Round: E. Macron: 31% (=), M. Le Pen: 18% (+0.5), É. Zemmour: 13% (+0.5), JL. Mélenchon: 11,5% (+1), V. Pecresse: 11% (-1).
  • 2nd Round: E. Macron: 58% (+0.5), M. Le Pen: 42% (-0.5)
  • 2nd Round: E. Macron: 63% (+0.5), V. Pecresse: 37% (-0.5)
  • 2nd Round: E. Macron: 66% (+1), E. Zemmour: 34% (-1)
  • 2nd Round: E. Macron: 65% (-1), JL. Melenchon: 35% (+1)
The candidacies of right-wingers Marine Le Pen and notably Eric Zemmour continue to be hampered by their previous complimenting of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Meanwhile, centre-right Les Republicains nominee Valerie Pecresse has seen her campaign swallowed up between the centrist Macron and the right-wingers Le Pen and Zemmour, with her brand of centre-right Gaullism with hints of nationalism failing to make an impact with voters.
  • First round of the election is less than a month away, taking place on 10 April.
