Magashule Takes ANC Legal Battle to Supreme Court, HealthMin Confident on Year-End Targets

  • Suspended ANC SG Magashule takes his legal battle with the ANC to the Supreme Court of Appeal this morning – calling on the court to overturn the High Court decision to uphold his suspension and instead suspend President Ramaphosa.
    • It seems unlikely that the SCA would contradict the HC decision, given how clearly it was dismissed in the prior trial.
  • HealthMin Phaahla says SA has enough vaccines with agreements set with suppliers over the coming months and remains committed to reach 70% vaccination rate by end-2021.
    • Notes uptake of vaccines has been high in recent days following the inclusion of 18-35s ahead of schedule
  • Finance Committee to consider DA-proposed pension fund bill allowing a single 30% loan (down from 75%) to be taken out against a guarantee provided by a pension fund which was supported by union Cosatu.
    • Treasury deputy director strongly opposed the bill saying it lacked technical detail and failed to consider tax implications, but the Treasury said a pension reform bill of some form would emerge by year-end
