Malaysia Expects Daily Covid Cases To Fall Under 1,000 In October

Spot USD/MYR operates close to a cycle high of MYR4.2038 printed last Wednesday, last -17 pips at MYR4.2008. A pullback under Jul 12 low of MYR4.1810 would give bears some reprieve, while shifting focus to Jul 6 low of MYR4.1480. Conversely, a break above MYR4.2038 would bring Aug 11, 2020 high of MYR4.2065 into play.

  • Director-General of Health Noor Hisham suggested that Malaysia's daily Covid-19 case count could fall below 1,000 in October or November, if the current pace of vaccinations is sustained. Noor Hisham added that officials expect all Klang Valley residents to be vaccinated next month.
  • PM Muhyiddin floated the idea of opening some services to fully vaccinated individuals, including travelling or dining in.
  • Speaker Azhar Harun confirmed that Malaysia's parliament will reconvene for five days from Jul 26. The first full session will be held in September.
  • Data-wise, focus in Malaysia turns to next Friday's CPI report.
