Malaysian PM Anwar Travels To China For Three-Day Visit From Thursday

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim will make his first visit to China since taking office at the end of last year, as his government looks to improve bilateral relations with Beijing.

  • Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir told local media that the invitation for the Malaysian leader "shows the aspirations of the Chinese government, especially President Xi Jinping who has just been appointed as President for the third term, to forge closer ties with the Anwar's Unity Government."
  • Anwar is expected to hold a number of meetings with top Chinese officials as the Malaysian delegation prepares to discuss issues ranging from trade to political cooperation, regional security, and fighting corruption.
