May IPCA-15 Inflation Data Due

  • Consumer prices as measured by the IPCA-15 index likely rose 0.64% in May on a monthly basis, according to economists surveyed by Bloomberg, after a 0.57% increase in prior reading. National statistics agency IBGE to release report at 1300BST/0800ET:
    • May IBGE Inflation IPCA-15 YoY, est. 4.21%, prior 4.16%
    • May IBGE Inflation IPCA-15 MoM, est. 0.64%, prior 0.57%
    • Separately, released earlier: Brazil May Consumer Confidence Rises to 88.2 from 86.8.
    • Treasury auctions fixed-rate LTN local notes due 2024, 2025 and 2026; fixed-rate NTN-F local notes due 2029 and 2033.
  • President Lula is expected to disclose measures to boost car sales at 10am local time. The president will announce “short-term measures to expand the population’s access to new cars and leverage the production chain linked to the Brazilian automotive sector”, according to a statement.
  • The fiscal bill now moves to the Senate where the government will try to accelerate the process by avoiding the committee stage.
