May Startup of Trans Mountain Expansion Surprises Analysts: Reuters

Trans Mountain’s expansion which will start commercial operations on May 1, surprising analysts, according to Reuters.
- Analysts told Reuters that the operations’ May 1 start date is earlier than expected, with Wood Mac seeing late May or early June as more realistic.
- "Pretty well everyone with whom I’ve spoken regarding start-up was anticipating June 1," said Commodity Context analyst Rory Johnston on X, cited by Reuters.
- The news of the May 1 start date has had little effect on West Canadian Select prices thus far, which were little changed from the previous day.
- Once fully operational, WCS is expected to narrow to a single digit discount to WTI, compared with $12/b currently.
