MbS-We Discussed China-Gulf Free Trade Zone At Xi Meeting

Following meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and leaders from the Gulf, Levant, and Africa in Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman states that, "The Gulf-China summit establishes a new historical stage in Gulf-Chinese cooperation". Adds that "We discussed the establishment of a Gulf-Chinese free trade zone", and says that the two sides are studying cooperation in food security.

  • President Xi Jinping says that China will continue to import 'large quantities' of oil from the Gulf. The summit, concluding a three-day visit to Saudi Arabia, being watched closely in the US for indications of a closer relationship between its historical ally in the region and its primary economic challenger.
  • Xi states that Beijing and MENA states will work to establish a 'Gulf-Chinese center for nuclear security'.
