McCarthy: I'm Ready To Meet Biden "At Any Moment" To Discuss Debt Limit

US

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has told reporters that he is ready to meet President Biden "at any moment" to kickstart negotiations on raising the debt ceiling.

  • Jake Sherman at Punchbowl News reports that McCarthy stated: “[Biden] apparently doesn’t want to meet. I don’t understand why.”
  • McCarthy: “Mr. President, I'm ready at any time, at any moment. I'll come tonight. I would bring lunch to the White House. I would make it soft food”
  • McCarthy this week penned a letter to Biden accusing him of going AWOL on negotiations in a bid to drag Biden to the negotiating table. The White House responded by continuing to stonewall the prospect of any discussions on government spending without a House Republican budget in place.
  • This dynamic is unlikely to change in the short-term as lawmakers departs Washington tomorrow on a two-week Easter Congressional recess.
