Medvedev-If Sweden/Finland Join NATO Russia To 'Take Measures In Baltic'

Wires reporting comments from Deputy Chairman of the National Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stating that if Sweden and Finland join NATO then Russia will 'take measures in the Baltic' adding that 'the balance must be restored'.

  • Some outlets reporting the comments as Medvedev stating that Russia would put nuclear arms in the Baltic if Sweden/Finland join NATO, but the comments seem to simply say 'taking measures' rather than explicitly threatening the deployment of nuclear weapons.
  • Yesterday, at a meeting in Stockholm, Swedish PM Magdalena Andersson and Finnish PM Sanna Marin both sounded much more positive on the prospect of their nations joining NATO in the near future than at any point previously.
