Iran's semi-official Mehr News is reporting that Iran's Ambassador to Lebanon Mojtaba Amani may have been one of those injured when hundreds of pager devices in the possession of Hezbollah members exploded on 17 Sep. Mehr says the incident was part of "a massive Israeli cyber attack in Lebanon and Syria."
- In April the killing of several senior officials from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in a strike on an annexof the Iranian consulate in the Syrian capital Damascus was seen to presage a mass drone and missile strike on Israel. While that attack did not lead to a major escalation, today's attack will already be viewed as a further step towards a wider conflict. The harming of Iran's ambassador only raises tensions higher.
- Reuters report that according to Lebanese security sources more than 1,000 have been injured across the country as part of the attack.
