Mexico's Newest 'Mizton' Crude in Demand from US Refiners

Shipments of Mexico’s new crude, known at Mizton, are finding their way to US refiners as a replacement for Russian flows according to Refinitiv. The shipments began in April of this year.

  • The shipments are being made by Eni, the first outside oil company to export crude from Mexico.
  • Four vessels chartered by Eni have discharged at US ports since April, carrying a total of 2.2 million barrels.
  • A fifth Eni cargo of 525,000 barrels of Mizton on Aframax tanker Nippon Princess is scheduled to discharge this week on the US East coast.
  • Mexico’s Pemex will start shipping its share of the grade in the coming months.
