MFP PM Candidate Pita Holds Presser After Coalition Meeting

THAILAND

Move Forward Party (MFP) leader Pita Limjaroenrat said at a press conference that an eight-party coalition led by the MFP has established a power transition team, whose next meeting has been scheduled for June 6.

  • Bangkok-based news website Khaosod reports that the transition team has set up seven working committees for energy prices, drought, deep south, new charter, environment, costs of living and drugs. The plan is to establish 23 sub-committees for the 23 points of the Memorandum of Understanding between the parties.
  • Pita said that the conflict over the House Speaker position will be settled as soon as possible and won't hinder government formation. The discussion has reportedly narrowed down to candidates from the MFP and Pheu Thai, which means a rejection of the option of nominating a compromise candidate from a minor party.
  • The MFP leader said that negotiations with Senators are going "very well," as the coalition is trying to convince enough members of the military-appointed upper house to respect the outcome of the general election and back Pita's PM bid.
