Milei’s Omnibus Bill Approved By Lower House

  • The government’s shortened omnibus bill was approved by the lower house of congress this morning in a 142-106 vote. The voting will now continue on the bill’s many individual chapters. To recap, President Milei reissued the simplified bill after the original was rejected by congress in February.
  • Meanwhile, senior policymakers continue their meetings with Chinese officials today, including BCRA President Bausili who may discuss the central bank’s $18 billion swap line with the PBoC. Separately, the government will hold a meeting of the country’s minimum wage board at 2000BST (1500ET).
  • In other news, Economy Minister Luis Caputo said yesterday that the government is starting discussions over a new program with the IMF. He said that the government is laying out its new monetary and exchange rate plans to the Fund.
