Minister Discusses "Fit For 55" Package, Grain Import Ban

POLAND
  • Polish EU Minister Szymon Szynkowski vel Sek told PR24 that the EU's "Fit for 55" package of green legislative initiatives is "harmful" and will most negatively affect low-income households. He added that Poland is trying to convince other member states to its views on the package adopted by the European Parliament at first reading last week.
  • Szynkowski vel Sek also said that the European Commission's proposals for banning Ukrainian agricultural imports are "insufficient." Separately, when asked about the legality of measures taken by Warsaw, Agriculture Minister Robert Telus told PR1 that "to us, the interest of farmers is more important than some EU regulations." Meanwhile, Rzeczpospolita reports that firms that incurred losses on the back of the import ban are looking to sue the government and seek compensation.
  • Local media outlets report that the remains of an unknown military object have been found around 15km from the city of Bydgoszcz in northern Poland. The area has been cordoned off and is being examined by sappers and law enforcement officers. RMF FM radio noted, without naming their sources, that the object may have been a surface-to-air missile, which fell into the forest some time ago but was only found on Tuesday. The ratio station said that it is unclear if the missile has already exploded.
