OTTAWA (MNI) - The following are the key points from the October
data on the Canadian manufacturing sales released Friday by Statistics
Canada:
     - Sales value decreased 0.4% on the month, while analysts in a MNI
survey had expected a 1.0% gain. September increase was revised down to
0.4% from 0.5%.
     - Weakness was volume related, with real sales down 1.5%, more than
offsetting September's increase of 0.6%.
     - Declines were concentrated in 8 of 21 industries, including
autos, which fell 6.7%. Excluding autos and parts, manufacturing sales

to 1.40 from 1.37.
     - Forward-looking indicators were encouraging, however. Unfilled
orders rose 2.4%, the largest gain since July 2015. New orders were up
5.3%, the largest increase since April 2016.
