MNI: 5 Things We Learned From September US Durable Goods Data>

     WASHINGTON (MNI) - The following are the key points from the 
September Durable Goods data released Wednesday by the Commerce 
Department: 
     -Durable goods new orders +2.2%, well above the +1.1% expected 
after the unrevised 2.0% rise in August.  
     -Ex-transport +0.7%, above the +0.5% expected, pointing to 
underlying strength in the data. 
     -Transport orders +5.1%, driven by nondefense aircraft orders 
+31.5%, and defense aircraft orders +2.4%. Motor vehicles orders only 
+0.1%, but unlisted transportation orders +8.4%. 
     -There were orders gains in fabricated metals, computers and 
electronics, and the "all other durables" category, offset by small 
declines in primary metals, machinery, and electrical equipment. 
     -Durable inventories +0.6%, the largest increase since June 2015 
(+1.1%).
