MNI BRIEF: China Hopes Australia Acts To Improve Relations

China hopes Australia will act to build mutual trust and push the bilateral relationship back on track, Gao Feng, spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce said Thursday, noting that the current 'difficult' situation "is not what China wants to see. Gao was responding to questions on recent comments from Australian officials seeking dialogue over China's coal imports ban.

China also urged India to meet halfway and provide an open, fair and non-discriminatory business environment for market players from various countries including China, said Gao, commenting on India's June ban of 59 Chinese mobile phone applications, including Tik Tok and WeChat.

Gao added that China opposes the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC)'s ruling of wood mouldings and millwork products imported from China injuring the U.S. domestic industry, saying China will "respond and will take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies".
