MNI BRIEF: ECB Website Helps Narrow Inflation Expectations Gap

Paying closer attention to the European Central Bank's website can help close the gap between market-based inflation forecasts and longer-term professional expectations, an ECB working paper concludes.

Google Analytics data on ECB website traffic between 2008 and 2017 was used as a proxy for visitors' attention to its communications, with evidence of a correlation between increased page views and stabilising euro area inflation expectations, authors Alexander Jung and Patrick Kühl write.
