MNI BRIEF: EU Gentiloni: Growth Strong, But Downside Risks

(MNI) Brussels

Growth across the European Union is still looking strong ahead of the publication of the European Commission's Autumn Forecasts to be delivered on November 11, Economic Affairs Commissioner Paolo Gentiloni said Tuesday. Speaking in Madrid, Gentiloni said that euro zone growth was "still looking strong", but he warned of increasing downside risks, including supply chain disruption, inflation and rising Covid infections in some parts of the EU.

"Growth is still looking strong, so the outlook is positive, but downside risks are increasing," he said, noting "we are not out of the woods." Gentiloni said recent inflation pressures were the "collateral effects of a quite strong recovery."
