MNI BRIEF: Fed Lends Another $2B Through Main Street Program

The Federal Reserve issued another USD2 billion in Main Street loans in the week ended Dec. 30, it said Thursday, bringing the total outstanding principal of lending to midsize firms to roughly USD16.5 billion.

The Fed and Treasury last week extended the termination date of the lending program to Jan. 8 from Dec. 31 as demand spiked near year-end. The program had funded only USD6 billion in loans at the end of November. It has capacity to issue up to USD600 billion in loans.
