MNI BRIEF: Fed’s Kashkari - Policy Still Tight After Cuts

Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari is optimistic about further disinflation.

MNI (WASHINGTON) - U.S. monetary policy remains tight despite the Federal Reserve’s rate cut last month and inflation is likely to keep falling as the labor market cools, Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari said Monday. 

“After cutting rates 50 basis points I think we are likely still in a contractionary stance. We haven’t taken our foot off the brakes, we’ve simply relaxed the brakes a little bit,” he said during Q&A at a university in Argentina.
