MNI BRIEF: Japan Corporate Loan Demand Up: Latest BOJ Survey

TOKYO (MNI)

Demand for financing by Japanese corporates via banks rose as firms attempted to pre-emptively increase funds, according to the BOJ’s quarterly survey of senior loan officers at 50 banks released on Friday.

The index for corporate fund demand stood at zero in January, up from -3 in October. The index for fund demand expected for the next three months stood at +3, up from +2 in the previous survey. The index for demand from large companies rose to zero from -1 and the index for smaller businesses also rose to +2 from -3 in October.

The latest survey period was from Dec. 9, 2021, to Jan. 12, 2022.
