MNI BRIEF: Japan Dec Tokyo CPI Rise Accelerates On Energy

TOKYO (MNI)

The Tokyo core inflation rate rose 0.5% y/y in December for the fourth straight increase due to higher energy costs, data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications showed on Friday.

The core-core CPI (excluding fresh food and energy) -- a key indicator in the underlying trend of inflation – fell 0.3% y/y in December. Prices for energy item rose 16.9% y/y in December.

Meanwhile, prices for communications fell 53.6% y/y in December, unchanged from -53.6% in November.
