MNI BRIEF: Japan's January Core CPI Slows From December Pace

TOKYO (MNI)

Japan's January annual core consumer inflation rate rose 0.2% y/y, slowing from December, on the back of accommodation costs, data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications released on Friday showed.

Prices for accommodations rose 0.6% y/y in January, sharply slower than the +44.0% in December.

The January increase was fuelled by higher energy costs. The underlying inflation rate measured by the core-core CPI (excluding fresh food and energy) fell 1.1% y/y in January.
