MNI BRIEF: Japan May Consumer Confidence Rises, Govt Ups View

TOKYO (MNI)

Japan's May consumer confidence index rose for a second straight month as all components improved from April, prompting the Cabinet Office to upgrade its assessment, data released on Tuesday showed.

The data showed that the respondents projecting consumer price gains rose to a record high of 94.4% in May. The index rose to 34.1 in May from 33.0 in April, in a survey conducted from May 7 to May 20.
