Protecting small and medium sized investors in the stock market remains the most important task for regulators, Wu Qing, head of the China Securities Regulatory Commission, said Wednesday. (see MNI: China Must Address Investor Concerns To Boost A-shares)
Speaking to reporters, Wu said regulators would make efforts to attract long term investors, and ensure the market becomes fair and just. Recent market volatility had shown deep seated problems that needed to be considered, and while China may be the second largest stock market in the world, it lacked strength, Wu continued.
Officials will crack down on illegal activities such as fraud, market manipulation, and insider trading. Wu believed the cornerstone of the market has to be high quality listed companies with sound prospects and good governance. Listed companies are public companies that need an awareness of public interests and strive to create value, Wu said. (see MNI: China Needs To Make Delisting Companies Easier - Advisors)
