MNI BRIEF: Taiwan CPI Rate Unchanged In April

Taiwan’s consumer prices rose 2.35% y/y in April, the same rate of change seen in March, the National Statistics Department said Friday.

Food prices increased by 4.19% y/y and Education & Entertainment increased 3.29%, partially offset by a fall in clothing prices of 0.65%. Core CPI which excludes food and energy prices, rose 2.69% y/y.

Taiwan’s CPI growth for 2023 is forecasted to be 2.09%, but uncertainties to this outlook remain, according to the central bank's most recent monetary report. PPI increased 1.98% compared with the same month of 2022, the National Statistics Department said.
