Taiwan’s unemployment rate edged down 0.02% in January to 3.50%, the lowest level since 2001, according to data released by the National Statistics Department on Wednesday. Total employment increased by 20,000 persons during the first month of the year, with the labour force participation rate remaining unchanged at 59.17%.

Taiwan’s central bank is currently forecasting GDP growth to slow to around 2.5% in 2023, due to the global economic downturn impacting export and investment growth.

On Monday officials announced export orders were down 19% year on year, with decreases reported in most major categories and regions. (SEE: MNI BRIEF: Taiwan's Export Orders Decline In January - Bonds & Currency News | Market News)
