MNI BRIEF: UK Manufacturing Resilient Thru Jan Lockdown: CBI

MNI (London)
LONDON (MNI)

UK manufacturing showed signs of resilience in the early weeks of the third national lockdown, with order books deteriorating at a slower pace than in previous months, although there was a "stubbornly mixed picture" across different manufacturing sub-sectors, "pointing to the asymmetric impact of restrictions," Alpesh Paleja, CBI Lead Economist said Friday.

Total order books improved to -24 in February, up from -38 seen in the previous month, while export order books worsened (-39) and continue to be far below the long-term average (-18), according to the CBI's latest Industrial Trends survey. Expected output volumes rose sharply to -2 in February after declining to -24 in January. Stock adequacy weakened slightly in February, falling to 8, down from 13.
