MNI BRIEF: US 25% Tariffs On Mexico Paused Again - Sheinbaum
MNI (BRASILIA) - Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said Thursday the United States has once again agreed to postpone the implementation of a 25% trade tariff on all products covered under the USMCA for one more month, until April 2, after an "excellent and respectful" phone call with President Donald Trump.
"As President Trump mentioned, Mexico will not be required to pay tariffs on all products covered under the USMCA. This agreement is in place until April 2, when the United States will announce reciprocal tariffs for all countries," Sheinbaum said in a post on her official profile on X.
In February, the U.S. agreed to pause the implementation of trade tariffs for one month in exchange for stricter border enforcement by Mexico and Canada.
"Many thanks to President Donald Trump. We had an excellent and respectful call in which we agreed that our work and collaboration have yielded unprecedented results, within the framework of respect for our sovereignties. We will continue working together, particularly on migration and security issues, including reducing the illegal flow of fentanyl into the United States and firearms into Mexico," she added.
