MNI BRIEF: Trudeau- Trade War Lasting Into Foreseeable Future

MNI (OTTAWA) - Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Thursday that after a "colorful call" with Donald Trump he expects the U.S. trade war to last into the "foreseeable future."

Trudeau reiterated to reporters U.S. tariffs are unjustified and he wants all of them dropped. With provincial leaders divided on whether export taxes are a good idea, Trudeau said “we will be open to any exemptions” the U.S. might offer to industries like energy because maintaining national unity is essential. “Canada has a very, very strong bargaining position because Canadians are so united, unequivocal about standing up for our country,” he said.
